Are you constantly checking your mobile in case you miss something?
It’s now been recognised that heavy use of modern technology has led to an increase in sleep difficulties and anxiety. The anxiety is similar to what is termed "separation anxiety" - excessive anxiety from someone (or something) with which there is a strong emotional attachment.
The use of laptops/mobiles before you go to bed can affect the quality of sleep due to the body being fooled by the light from the screens. The light inhibits the release of melatonin which helps us feel sleepy.
If we have our mobiles on all night we can remain hyper vigilant again affecting out quality of sleep.
The wonders of modern technology have also meant we have access to information and work 24/7 so our boundaries around work/home/leisure get blurred.
How can we help ourselves?
Create boundaries with your emails - check only at certain times, use automatic replies to inform others you will be only checking them once a day
Turn off the email alert
Stop using mobiles/pcs/laptops a couple of hours before you go to bed
Turn your mobile off at night
When on holiday - BE ON HOLIDAY
Employ 20:20:20 rule ie. every 20minutes look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds
Make use of nature, go outside for a walk or sit in a park
