I recently had the pleasure of working with a client (S) who I first met in April this year and then worked with him again in the last month. Working with this client gives a great illustration of how different therapies and treatments can be integrated to produce great outcomes for the client.
When I first met S he was curious about receiving Reiki but didn’t know much about it. S was going through a very difficult time in his life, lots of stress, becoming forgetful with anxiety and sometimes panic present. I offered a 30 minute Reiki session, at a wellbeing event, and the response from S was immense. He described a field being surrounded by hedges (barriers) which suddenly blew open to reveal an open empty space of light. For several days afterwards he experienced a dramatic shift in his energy and clarity in his mind.
Recently S approached me again wanting Coaching as a way to cope with “confusion, worries, inability to be in charge and bad past thoughts”.
Our first coaching session, over the phone, focused on bringing clarity to tasks and reinforcing positive action. Although S was using bullet points to help remember what to do we discussed using coloured pens to symbolise goals with a starting date and those with an end date. S broke down tasks into manageable steps and challenged his thinking from “I should ..” to “I choose to...”
He also introduced, at the end of his day, writing down and acknowledging things that he was grateful for, appreciated or was pleased about.
We worked a little more on recognising the impact of thoughts on our emotions and behaviour using cognitive behavioural therapy model.
Our final session involved Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This powerful yet gentle intervention can be taught as a self-help tool to decrease intensity of emotions alongside reframing the issue. Through using EFT S was able to not only bring down but to eliminate the anxiety and fear he had about a forthcoming issue. Part of this involved going back to a previous memory in a way that was gentle and forgiving.
We have now finished our session with S feeling more in control of his life, less stressed, has clarity and motivation to achieve set tasks and with greatly reduced anxiety. S has also embraced new ways of thinking and has incorporated holistic self healing into his life.
As a Life Coach and therapist I can offer help and support that may be practical or cognitive in focus but also interventions that are more “energy, spiritual” led. Whatever way I work it will always be for the best intention and outcome for my clients.

I would also be delighted to hear of your experiences with these ways of working.
"Recently I have received 3 Sessions of Coaching from Karen Thomas in relation to my personal confidence and self belief. I have experienced how to not expect too much of myself and to write goals down segmented into small parts that make it easy to deal with. Also Karen has introduced Tapping, allowing me to look at my anxiety and not get overwhelmed by it. Accepting and dealing with it when it arises. Outside of the Coaching I had two 20 minute sessions of Reiki, this also has opened my mind to allow me to think clearly. I would like to recommend Karen to anyone to feels they need some direction in life, a way of being here and now and not worrying about past or future"
