COACHING AND GOLF
Are you aware that during a 4 hour game of golf you will be in contact with the ball for only 3 minutes?Have you noticed that there is endless time to over analyse and criticise your game?
Golf is one of the most psychological sports that is played. Not only are there a number of strokes to be technically mastered but also there is a myriad of components that can affect your game.
What is the weather doing?
Is the ball lying above my feet?
Which club do I take for the distance?
My back is not feeling too good today!
Golf does have a seductive quality – it lures you into savouring and remembering those “triumphant” shots amongst the numerous exasperating ones! And it is during the shots, whilst walking around, that the game can be won or lost.
However, the game starts before you step onto that first tee. Are you thinking about your previous round? “Will I still slice my 5 wood?”
So how can I, as a Life Coach, help you with this wonderful but frustrating game of golf?
It starts with self-awareness. What are you saying to yourself between shots? Are these thoughts helpful or destructive? As a coach I will improve your ability to recognise your inner dialogue and increase your understanding of the role that doubts/anxiety have in performance. Together we will build an array of strategies that will take you to another level in your golf game. I will listen, encourage, suggest and support you to put into place your increased learning thus increasing your enjoyment of the game of golf.

"Being able to play golf is most probably more about attitude and application than pure technical know-how. I found the work with Karen very worthwhile and recommend her to anyone having problems with confidence in their game." J. Chappell
COACHING AND SPORT
Although the previous text has been specifically about golf the principles of increasing your awareness of your mental thoughts is true for all sports.
Obviously it is important to have a degree of technical ability but what makes a sports person a truly great one is their level of mental focus and self-belief.
The most effective way to increase individual physical efficiency is to become increasingly aware of the physical sensations in your body during a game. When kinaesthetic awareness is focused on movement the immediate inefficiencies are reduced and eliminated. It is about taking yourself “out of your head” and into the awareness of your bodies. Often we do not trust our bodies to know what to do and therefore interfere by thinking too much.
